Baguettes (Bread)

With or without jam, a demi-baguette becomes an unexpected philosopher.

Special thanks to the writers of The New York Timesfor playing along or rather providing the headlines for my demi-baguettes that I captured on film pre-2018.**  I tried to match my morning demi with a headline that suits my mood of the day. It's what I might term a 'bread haiku.'  Look to my Instagram for more delicious poems.

*I have 'borrowed' the headlines from the writers of The New York Times from articles that appeared in the printed paper on the day I captured the demi-baguette photographed.  This was done without prior consent from The New York Times and the writers to use their words so.  This project is strictly personal and in no way should be considered an endorsement by them.  My apologies and thanks.

**2019 - 2020:  Maison Kayser became my bread place, particularly the Columbus Circle outpost.  My sister and I would skip in after our swim at the West Side Y to buy a baguette and a chocolate brioche.  I would break the baguette in equal parts for each of us to carry to work for breakfast.  Two to three pieces of sliced chocolate brioche would fuel her walk north through the park to The Met, and me south to my office.  Every day should begin so deliciously.

2020 - present: So this thing called COVID-19 threw "a cat among the pigeons" and one day I might write about the dark days of no baguettes.  Those early COVID days were long and unhappy, but for now I will share a gorgeous moment - I discovered the most perfect bakery in my own neighborhood, a 5-minute walk from home, Cannelle Long Island City.  I had been in the bakery maybe once before, but paid little attention to its merits or rather because work was in the city, I was doing my bread runs in the city.  Working from home afforded 'daytime' in my neighborhood and as such, the chance rendezvous with Cannelle.  Waouh, waouh, waouh!  For me, Cannelle's baguettes and almond croissants are the best and I am thankful everyday for my "Alchemist" bread run.
